Services

There are a variety of services I offer you at Whittle Critique. Please browse through to see what each service includes and take your pick. All editing is done using track changes option of MS Word.

Manuscript Critiques:

I read your complete manuscript and offer you a detailed analysis about all the major strengths of your manuscript with all the glaring plot holes and weaknesses. Advice is given as to your next best option in terms of which service to choose and what next step to take.

Content/Structural/Developmental Editing:

This is where major issues in the manuscript are tackled. Areas covered under content editing are:

  • Structuring errors
  • Character development
  • Scene/setting descriptions
  • POV
  • Reducing wordiness
  • Improving clarity/believability

Copy Editing:

This is usually done when your manuscript has passed the stage of content editing and no longer needs any structural changes. You could also opt for this service even without a content edit if you are confident about your manuscript not needing any developmental editing. There is no sense really in correcting sentences and words, if you are going to change all of it by a content edit. Copy editing includes correction of:

  • Sentence structure
  • Paragraphing
  • Style or fact inconsistencies
  • Spelling
  • Grammar
  • Punctuation
  • General flow of words

Proofreading:

This is the last stage of the editing process. When your manuscript is almost ready for publishing, proofreading is the final polish that it receives. Proofreading involves checking for errors in:

  • Spelling
  • Grammar
  • Punctuation

Blurb or summary edit: This service helps you with getting your blurb right. A blurb (few lines that describe your story in the most captivating way possible) needs to be crisp, to-the-point, and engaging at the same time, to make the best first impression on readers and get them interested.

Query Critique and Edit: If you are looking to publish traditionally then you’ll need to craft a query letter about your book to get the agents interested. I help you get that query right.

Creative writing coaching: This service is for those who are new to the world of writing; who would love to hone their skills and learn the basics. It is not genre-specific but is limited to fiction and creative non-fiction.

Ghostwriting: If something interesting comes along then I take up ghostwriting projects too. I write fiction, non-fiction, blog posts and other web content.

Translation: I provide translation services for clean fiction and interesting non-fiction, from Urdu and Hindi to English.
